This weekend delivered a fantastic result from our Division 1 Men, with their first win of the season.
We've asked the coach of each of our three teams to write up a brief summary of their game. We'll be posting these summaries each round throughout the season so that you can keep up to date with the club's performance.
The Reserve Men had a loss to Austral this week. The squad played some of its best volleyball for the season so far, but unfortunately couldn't manage to be consistent enough across an entire set.
Strengths included serving and serve reception. Weaknesses again this week were blocking and the ability to produce an effective second attack. MVP this week goes to Andy Wong who stepped up the strength of his attack, creating an effective outside option and release ball.
Division 1 Women
The AUVC girls played against South Adelaide in their fifth round match. Having had a week off due to the bye, the girls seemed a bit rusty in stretches resulting in a rather mercurial performance ranging from being up by seven points to losing many points in a row.
Unfortunately for the girls, the South team had all the luck in the game as well as all of the controversial ref calls going their way, resulting in a 0-3 loss. The girls are keeping their heads high and are hungry for victory after this loss. MVP goes to Elly Surman, for strong serving and consistent work in the back court.
Division 1 Men
The division 1 men achieved their first victory of the season, defeating Austral 4-1 with a great overall performance.
In contrast to previous games, the team played with great intensity from the beginning. Defence and blocking were good but at times we struggled with serve reception which led to the loss of second set.
Offense was a reliable strength of ours with the squad strengthened with the quality of Pedro Cumino and Dan Vincent. However MVP of the game goes to Max Davis who stepped up this game showing some big hits and solid passing.
