We've asked the coach of each of our three teams to write up a brief summary of their game. We'll be posting these summaries each round throughout the season so that you can keep up to date with the club's performance.
The Reserves men played Austral this weekend. The team struggled to gain momentum from the start, resulting in a straight set loss. Serving and serve reception were among the factors at fault, but ultimately there was no player who stood up to the challenge presented by the in form Austral Phoenix. This game gives us a good focus for the USC match in 2 weeks.
Division 1 Women
Skylar Hall and Ryan Muldrew
This week the Division 1 Women played one of their best games. Although it was a 1-3 loss, the girls played their hearts out. Special mentions to Laura Malcolm and Phoebe Pado for stepping up and passing after Elly Surman unfortunately injured her knee. Well played girls!
Division 1 Men
The Division 1 Men experienced a defeat against an experienced Henley Hawks side. The team played well despite a number of players absent from the game. Throughout the game we had many chances, with Ming Tan providing constant pressure on their defence and Max Davis executing some big hits.
Although an improvement from the previous game, continual focus needs to be places on service pressure, and ability to side out and finish points. The set score was 3-0, but again it doesn’t represent the quality of volleyball played by the team and how close some sets were.
