We've asked the coach of each of our three teams to write up a brief summary of their game. We'll be posting these summaries each round throughout the season so that you can keep up to date with the club's performance.
The reserve men played USC Lion this weekend. The team started off well, winning the first set 25-14 due to strong serving and excellent serve reception. Unfortunately, the next three sets showed a lack of consistency in serve reception and setting, resulting in a 3-1 loss.
The game intensity remained high throughout the match, pointing to an increased maturity of the players. Special mentions go to Max Davis for performing well when needed, and to Andy Wong and Pedro Cumino for maintaining a high intensity in the front court in both offence and defence.
Division 1 Women
The girls faced off against a resilient Northern Knights team. Without a libero available due to injury, the girls had to make do with playing positions they were not fully accustomed to.
They came out firing and stayed that way throughout the 3 set win. Special mention to Simone Robertson for her best game yet and Adriana Wlodarczyk for some great hitting.
Division 1 Men
The Division 1 Men’s team were defeated by Mt Lofty Volleyball Club. The absence of captain Ming Tan contributed to the lack of communication and intensity produced within the team. As a result of this, many unforced errors were made causing us to lose the initial 2 sets.
Improvements weren’t present until we were 7 points down in beginning of the 3rd set. The team then started to pick up their game, executing some good volleyball and coming from behind to take the set. 4th set was a close one but the opponents fought back to take the set and the game.
Despite the loss and the many errors made, many positives can be taken from the game. Max Davis and Sebastian Smith provided some big hits, however it was Michael Psalios that excelled not only with his presence in the front court but also with some nice passing and serve reception in the back court without a libero.
