AUVC def Northern Knights 3-0
The reserve men played a good match this week against the Knights ultimately resulting in a straight set victory. Error rates were unfortunately high in offence but this was offset by solid serving and defence.
Honourable mentions this week go to Brodie McDougall for his solid blocking and back court game and Dan ‘Dipper’ Slorach for an all-round solid performance. MVP for round 6 again goes to Jade Walsh for his on court presence and high spike efficiency.
Henley def AUVC 3-0
The League Reserve Women faced a strong Henley Hawks side on Saturday, with two players missing due to exams. The women had a slow start to the match, going down 25-12 in the first set due to a large number of unforced errors and strong serving from the Hawks.
The second set saw the girls rebound well, matching the Hawks throughout the first half, until Henley managed to pull away and take the second and third sets.
Honourable mentions go to captain Shannon Lambert for her on-court leadership and enthusiasm, and to Yasmin Johnson for her consistent setting. MVP for the match goes to libero Elly Surman for her excellent defensive work and a number of spectacular saves in the third set.
Division 1 Men (1)
AUVC def Henley 3-0
A very solid performance this week by the Division A men resulted in a comfortable straight set victory over a decent Henley squad. The team were calm and calculated in what was the most relaxed I’ve ever felt while coaching.
Honourable mentions go to Andy Wong for his excellent attacks and jump serves and to Ming Tan for another solid setting performance. MVP for round 6 goes to Matt Chan for his ability to find the gaps and consistently hit down line.
Division 1 Men (2)
Austral def AUVC 3-0
After a poor start to the first set, the Division B men went on to achieve their best performance of the season so far. Almost winning the 2nd set, the communication and intensity was high, showing noticeable improvement from previous weeks.
Honourable mentions go to Zac Ahmadi for stepping up his serve reception and to Tom Mansfield for his unstoppable front court attack. MVP for round 6 goes to Halim Darwish for an excellent setting performance and front court game.
Division 1 Women
South Adelaide def AUVC 3-0
The Div 1 Women had a good first set, with the team betting a 7/1 early lead. South Adelaide were attacking well but AU was able to defend well and counter attack. Some alterations to the team blocking worked well but South were able to recover and take a very close 1st set.
In the second set South played at a high level and were able to keep the rally going just longer than the AU women. In the 3rd set a South Jump server served 12 points in a row making a bit of a mess of the AU reception. With this glut of free points South went onto a 3 - 0 win.
The AU girls skills were there throughout the match and they will certainly be able to break through for a win very soon. MVP for the match goes to Rachael Lawrance. A special thanks goes to David Eldridge for stepping in to coach this team this week!
