Austral defeated AUVC 3-1
The reserve men played a tough game this week against Austral. The first set ended well, with serve reception and aggression at the net proving too strong for the men in purple. However, Austral stepped up their service and especially their middle attacks which resulted in a 1-3 loss.
Honourable mentions go to Edward Pietsch and Jade Walsh for their aggressive attacks and never-say-die attitude. MVP for round 7 goes to Dan Slorach for his consistent sets throughout the match.
USC Lion defeated AUVC 3-1
The League Reserve Women played USC Lion this weekend. The match was very close, with the AU women narrowly losing 3-1 with the fourth set score 25-23. The team had the best match they’ve played all season, with a very strong offence backed up by excellent work in defence. Unfortunately we simply made a few too many unforced errors.
Honourable mentions go to Yasmin Johnson for her smart, consistent setting, and Elly Surman for her control and communication in the back court. The MVP for Round 7 is Shannon Lambert, for her strong outside hitting and excellent on-court attitude and leadership as team captain.
Division 2 Men (2)
USC Lion defeated AUVC 3-0
An internal reshuffling of players left the Div2 men in a vulnerable position against the well-established Lofty team. Whilst the men attempted to rally around each other and remain positive in the face of a strong opposition, a lack of communication nonetheless crippled the team’s efforts to put up a solid defence.
Honourable mentions go to Jon Mabbs who rose to the occasion by deviating from his usual position to step up as an alternative setter, and also Simon Pratt who took it upon himself to organise players on court and constantly encourage the team. MVP this week goes to Mehdi Mohamoodi who worked consistently to follow the game plan throughout.
Division 1 Women
Mt Lofty defeated AUVC 3-0
The Division 1 women played against the undefeated ladder leaders Mt Lofty, this week. Although the end result was a 0-3 loss, at times we played some of the best volleyball we’ve mustered all season. Blocking pressure was strong and defense held up well against Lofty’s powerful offense. This meant that we were even able to push the second set out to 27-25.
Honourable mentions to Rebecca Larizza for being a strong offensive option through the middle, and to Rachael Lawrance for consistent, effective setting. MVP for round 7 goes to Laura Malcolm for adding considerable strength to our net presence in both the block and attack.
