SA State League Round 13 - Match Reports

Reserves Men

AUVC def Northern Knights 3-0

The reserve played a solid match this weekend against the Knights, losing less than 40 points for the whole match. Serving inaccuracy and defensive readiness could have been better, but overall the team played well.

Honourable mentions this week go to Dan Vincent for a dominant middle attack and to Konrad Pilch for another solid setting game. MVP for round 13 goes to Brodie McDougall for a solid all round performance, especially serving.

Reserves Women

Henley def AUVC 3-0

The League Reserve Women faced the Henley Hawks this round. Although the final score was a 0-3 loss to the Hawks, each set was close, and the AUVC women showed one of their best performances for the season.

Unfortunately some shaky serve reception and simple mistakes gave up too many points to the Hawks. Even so, teamwork and communication were excellent, with strong blocking, block cover and defence forcing the Hawks to work for every point.

Honourable mentions go to Phoebe Pado for her blocking presence, and Yasmin Johnson for her smart, consistent setting. MVP for round 13 goes to Rebecca Larizza for being a reliable point scorer in the front court.

Division 1 Women

USC Lion def AUVC 3-0

This week the Division 1 women played their second game against USC Lion. While the final result was a 0-3 loss, there were many occasions where we played great volleyball and were ahead, but unfortunately could never hold it for an entire set. Simone did a great debut job as libero but unfortunately Lion’s relentless serving and offense really strained our defence. Our serving was a highlight of our game and we were often able to string multiple runs of points together, including a large number of aces.

Honourable mentions this week go to Kat Karpenko for effective setting and serving, as well as to Theresa Tung for strong offense and reliable, aggressive serving. MVP for this round goes to Charlotte Vince for outstanding hitting and presence at the net, as well as consistent setting and effective serving.

Division 2 Men (1)

USC Lion def AUVC 3-2

Yet another close five-setter for the team to come away from, unfortunately without the result we wanted. However the game was one to be proud of, and demonstrated the team’s ability to work cohesively, and to keep playing our own style of game against a tough opposition. Particularly late in the game, the team worked well to regroup and side out before USC could muster more than a handful of points, leading to the nail biting finish in the 5th. There were many positives to take away from the game, despite the disappointment of the loss, which itself has given the team a strong hunger to take into upcoming games, and into finals.

Honourable mention this week goes to Max Davis. MVP for round 13 goes to Ming Tan.

Division 2 Men (2)

Henley 1 def AUVC 3-1

One of the better displays of volleyball by this team! Serve reception was excellent and serving pressure was high. Although we were the stronger team at the net, consistency was an issue. Errors ultimately resulted in the 4 set loss to the solid Henley squad.

Honourable mentions go to Mehdi Mohammadi for another aggressively consistent performance and to Tom Mansfield for leading the way with communication and offensive consistency. MVP for round 13 goes to libero Simon Pratt for the best display of serve reception and back court control we have seen this season.
