SA State League Match Report - Round 8

League Reserve Men

USC Lion def AUVC 3-2

A very hot and cold match by the Reserve Men this week. The third set was our best of the season with 18 (yes, that’s right, 18!) kill spikes. Unfortunately, this form wasn't continued in the last 2 sets, eventually going down in 5. Poor execution of touches and low team moral were to blame for the poor performance.

The squad will be implementing some changes moving forward and are excited to take on the top-of-the-table Mt Lofty this coming weekend.

Honourable mention goes to Dan Vincent for a solid match through the middle. MVP goes to Edward Pietsch for achieving half of the squad’s total offensive points.

League Reserve Women

AUVC def USC Lion 3-2

AU won the first set then lost the next two.  At the end of the 3rd set confidence and morale was low.  Going into the fourth set the girls worked hard in changing their mental attitude and on court decision making and won the fourth set to go into the deciding 5th set.  The 5th set was won comfortably.

This week MVP goes to Laura Malcolm who had a tremendous game coming off injury the past few weeks and found a number of blocks at key points in the game, worked hard in offence and served well.

Division 1 Men

USC Lion def AUVC 3-0

A disappointing weekend for the Div one men, as a team we struggled to get anything going against a fairly strong USC, we didn't bring the intensity as team and struggled defensively.

We were able to put together some good passages of play but ended up losing 3-0

MVP for this round goes to Mani Ganiger for his strong offensive game

Division 1 Women

AUVC def USC Lion 3-0

This week was the rematch between the Adelaide University Division Women and USC. The girls had won the first match-up in 5 sets and were able to win this one in 3 straight.

The first two sets were close with a few too many errors from our side letting USC keep it close. The third set we started playing the way we should be and were able to win it easily.

Honourable mention goes to Kam Bhowany for stepping up as Captain this week and having a solid game as pass hitter and middle.

MVP this week goes to Kate Woodbridge for excellent serving throughout the match, providing much needed points in the first 2 sets when we needed them.
