SA State League Round 6 - Match Reports

League Reserve Men

AUVC def Northern Knights 3-0

Another solid performance by the AUVC reserve men defeating the Knights in straight sets. AUVC played a consistent style of volleyball with a focus on aggressively ending the point fast. This strategy was executed well, not allowing the Knights to get more than 16 points in any set.

Honourable mentions go to Micheal Murphy and Brennan Howie for consistent setter and libero performances.

MVP again goes to Edward Pietsch for approaching each point clinically and aggressively.

League Reserve Women

AUVC def Northern Knights 3-0

With an unexpected injury taking one of our players out early on in the game the girls worked hard together to eventually win against Knights 3-0

The first set went well with an unusual rotation our girls were able to bring it together and win convincingly.  In the second set we trailed 3-16 early on however after a stellar effort won the second set.  With momentum behind us we won the third set convincingly again.

Honourable mentions to Charlene Bowering for strong play in the middle on offense and block and Joey Sveinnison for great adaption to playing in the middle.

MVP this week goes to Rebecca Larizza for consistent positive attitude especially when we were behind in the second set, consistent performance throughout and excellent jump float serving.

Division 1 Men

AUVC def Northern Knights 3-0

This week saw Div 1 mens take on the Northern Knights. After a slow start we were able to cruise to an convincing 3-0 win. It was good to be able to change the rotation and all the players were still able to play constantly at a high levels.

Honourable mentions to Elvio Sinopoli for his great defensive work and for stepping up and setting in the 3rd set.

MVP for this week goes to George Sainsbury, for his strong leadership, constant play in multiple positions and guiding the team to a easy 3 set win.

Division 1 Women

AUVC def Northern Knights 3-0

After a close 5 set loss last week the AUVC Div Women's team was eager to get back in the win column.

Round 6 had the girls matched up against the Northern Knights and the girls came out strong in the first set and winning comfortable. The second set started strong but the Knights fought back to tie it mid set and it was a back and forth affair from there, ending with AUVC finally winning it 33-31.

The girls were down multiple set points in the set but fought back each time.

The third set had AUVC playing to true form, beating the Knights easily 25-8.

Honourable mention goes to Simone Robertson for a very consistent serve receive and defence performance.

MVP goes to Kate Woodbridge for leading multiple runs on her serve and her best setting performance of the year.

Division 2 Men

Mt Lofty def AUVC 3-0

Mount Lofty proved to be very strong with their serving power. They were able to target weaknesses very well and aim for gaps with their serving. Ultimately this lead to the defeat, however.

On a good note, as the game progressed the team was able to start rallying together and were able to receive the harder serves. Sadly it was too late in the game.

Honourable mentions go to Oscar Estrada for his consistent passing and defensive plays and to Finn McIntyre for his setting consistency.

MVP for this game goes to Ollie Williams for his aggressive attacking presence.
