SA State League Match Report - Round 9

League Reserve Men

AUVC def Mt Lofty 3-1

Excellent display of volleyball this weekend by the AUVC Reserve Men. We took on the top-of-the-table Mt Lofty. First set was close, but we ended up losing 26-28. Next 2 sets were close again, but the level of consistency and clinical nature of our game got us over the line winning 25-21 and 31-29! It was at the start of the fourth set when Mt Lofty realised that there was little they could do to stop us – handing us the set 25-15, with 5 of the last 6 serves being aces.

Honourable mentions are difficult this week due to the excellent way that so many players performed. Brennan Howie for leading a strong serve reception display and Brodie McDougall for excellent blocking against a very fast offence.

MVP for round 9 goes to Jade Walsh for stepping up where we needed him to and delivering outstanding offensive efficiency.

Division 1 Men

Mt Lofty def AUVC 3-0

This week saw div one men play Mt Lofty. This top of the table clash was a hard fought match between the two teams which unfortunately did go our way. Mt Lofty played very well proving to be to strong defensively and held back a very strong Adelaide Uni attack.

Honourable mentions to Mani Ganiger and Andy Wong for playing a strong offensive performance.

MVP this week goes to Max Davis for his high level of play and intensity on court.

Division 1 Women

AUVC def Mt Lofty 3-2

A highly anticipated rematch between AUVC Division Women and Mount Lofty. First game between the two teams this season went to 5 sets with Mount Lofty prevailing in the end. This week AUVC came out strong and played some of their best volleyball of the year, winning the first 2 sets.

Mount lofty came back to win in the third and fourth bringing the rematch to another 5th set. Strong play from all players on the court in the 5th led AUVC to the win against the previously undefeated Mount Lofty.

Honourable mention this week goes to the two middles, Tori Long and Shannon Schulz for putting up consistent blocks throughout the match, allowing our defense to stifle the strong Lofty offense.

MVP goes to Kate Woodbridge who was flying around the court as setter, playing excellent defense, serving well, and making great sets off of even not ideal passes.
