SA State League Match Reports - Semi Finals

League Reserve Men

AUVC def USC Lion 3-2

A very tight match this week by the AUVC reserve men. We faced a determined USC Lion squad in this elimination final. AUVC trailed 1-2 after the first 3 sets but turned up the effort to win tight 4th and 5th sets. Aggressive serving and a very high side-out rate were to thank for the victory which is the first time an AUVC team has won a finals match.

Honourable mentions go to Jade Walsh for his ability to aggressively win points when we needed them the most, and to Michael Murphy for solid offensive options and captaincy.

MVP goes to Edward Pietsch for a consistent serve reception and offensive match.

AUVC League Reserve Men will now play Mt Lofty in the Preliminary Final this Saturday 10th September at Mt Lofty Sports Centre.  The winner of this match, will face off against Norwood in the Grand Final the following week.

League Reserve Women

Norwood def AUVC 3-1

First round of finals saw the Reserve Women take on Norwood in the 3rd/4th elimination match.

The first two sets saw strong offensive performances from both teams, with Norwood taking both by just two points in each after both teams holding the lead in each set several times.

The third set was a dominating performance from AU, with very strong service and defensive play, leading the girls to take a set back, winning it 25-11 and going into a must win fourth set.

The fourth set was intensely fought out, both teams took an all out aggression onto the court, leading to big kills, blocks and digs on both sides.

Norwood took an early lead, and while the AU girls were able to make up the deficit, late in the set Norwood pulled ahead and were able to take that few point lead through to the end of the set, and the game.

Division 1 Men

South Adelaide def AUVC 3-2

First week of finals saw our Div 1 men take on South Adelaide. After a very strong starting closing out the first set in strong fashion South hit back winning the next two sets. The guys rallied late and won the fourth set.

Unfortunately South played a strong fifth set and won the match 13-15 in the fifth.

It was a very emotional game filled with dramatic emotions. I'm super proud of the way the guys hung in and continued to rally against a really strong south team.

Congratulations to Tom Mansfield for a incredible performance and for that he received our last MVP

Great job to all the guys this season can't wait for next season!

Division 1 Women

Austral def AUVC 3-1

The first set started slow and went to Austral.  In the second set the au girls too the lead with strong serving from Tori and smart offence from Rebecca. In the following sets Austral adjusted their defensive style and we're eventually able to overcome the AU women 3-1.

Honourable mentions go to Rachael Lawrence for maintaining a positive attitude throughout, Tori Long for her fantastic serving run in the second and Rebecca Proctor for her aggressive attacking strategy.

The girls are looking forward to 2017, and what improvements they can make on this years results.

Division 2 Men

AUVC def Norwood 3-0 (Forfeit)

Last week the div 2 men faced off against Norwood in the last game before finals. We won 3-0 due to forfeit, but lost in the scratch match. The team didn't hold concentration enough to finish sets and will need to this week against the same team.

MVP goes to Finn McIntyre for a reasonable all round performance.

AUVC Division 2 Men will now play Norwood in the Prelimary Final Thursday 8th September at Kensington YMCA.  With almost identical game stats throught 2016, this is guaranteed to be a very close match!
