This is the third year running that the AUVC have sent teams across the border to the Annual Warrnambool Seaside Volleyball Tournament over the March long weekend.
The tournament, as always, was spectacularly well-run, and this year saw 70+ teams competing across multiple divisions for cash prizes. We sent 2 Men’s teams and 1 Women’s team, all of which represented AU in Division 1.
Our first Men’s team made it all the way through to the finals after finishing second in their pool. Unfortunately, they fell just short of the money, losing their semi-final in a nail-biting game and finishing 3rd overall in the division. Our second Men’s team who were also looking set to earn a spot in the semi-finals narrowly missed out due to an upset result between other contenders late in the pool rounds. However, they went on to beat Dandenong in their final placing game and secured 7th place.
Our Women had a great tournament as well, only dropping games by very small margins. They took on cross-town rivals South Adelaide Volleyball Club in their final placing match and came out victorious in a high-pressure game securing 9th place.
It’s safe to say that all our players had an amazing time both on and off the court, and we look forward to attending again in 2018.
