SA State League Match Reports: Round 6

DIVISION TWO MEN (ROUND 5)

AUVC DEF. UNI SA (2-1)

Div 2 men defeated Uni SA 2 -1 this week. The lads knew it would be a hard game as Uni SA are very vocal on court which can be intimidating. Despite knowing this they went on court with enthusiasm and energy which resulted in a win for them.

After a slow start in the first set, the guys were determined to win the next one, they came out firing and were leading for a majority of the set. Neither team was willing to give up and went point for point in the later stages, the boys ended the set making smart choices resulting in the win. The last set was won comfortably.

Honourable mention to Bochan for his smart options on court and Peter for jumping on court when rotation got messy. MVP goes to Monty this week for acting cool under pressure when the team required it and making smart decisions in regards to positioning of players and hitting options.

LEAGUE MEN

NORWOOD DEF. AUVC (3-1)

League Men Played Norwood this week. Norwood is currently undefeated and was returning to a full squad this week.

The match went 3-1 to Norwood. Overall the squad played well and we were happy with our efforts. Ultimately we were unable to match Norwood in defence or serve receive.

Honourable mentions to Brodie Jackson and Adam Winter for consistently strong offence throughout the game.

MVP this week goes to Alex Rogan for consistently good serve receive and defence and not dogging out on the boys Saturday night.

LEAGUE RESERVE WOMEN

SOUTH ADELAIDE DEF. AUVC (3-0)

Adelaide University Reserve Women took on the top of the ladder South Adelaide team this week.

South Adelaide came out as the strongest team we have faced so far, with a more varied offensive attack then we have seen so far this year and incredible defence from every position. South was able to beat Adelaide University in 3 25-13, 25-23, 25-15.

This week was a good learning experience for the girls, getting to see a well-run attack and excellent defence. The second set shows we are capable of running with them and we just need to come a bit more prepared and play a solid game throughout the match to take them on.

Honourable mention goes to Peytan Zanck for strong play out of the middle, setting a good block against their attack.

MVP goes to Rebecca Larizza for being our consistent attack option and converting on points when needed.

LEAGUE RESERVE MEN

AUVC DEF. SOUTH ADELAIDE (3-0)

We went up against South this week, hungry for a win after going down in five the week before. The first set started off quite slow with us trailing for most of the set until South broke away to take the match out to 20-10. A breakfast ball miss hit from South was all it took to turn the tables and for our boys to finally kick into gear. Some solid hitting, defence and magnificent target serving saw us put on a 15-3 point turn around to take out the set 25-23. The second set was a tough grind with us going point for point most of the set and neither team giving much. This was until later in the set where we broke off with solid serving again and strong offence to take the set out 25-21.

The third set was then a whitewash, with our boys confidently putting the set away 25-13 and notching up another confident 3-0 victory.

Honourable mentions go to Jade Walsh with some solid serving to take out the first set and kick off the second set. The MVP for this week goes to Tom Berone, with solid passing all game and strong defence presence.

DIVISION ONE WOMEN

SOUTH ADELAIDE DEF. AUVC (3-0)

Adelaide University Division 1 Women took on the undefeated South Adelaide team this week.

The first 2 sets started very slowly for Adelaide U, with South getting 8-0 and 9-1 leads to start both of those sets. After those large runs to start Adelaide played better volleyball but South still managed to grow the leads to win 25-10, and 25-13 in the first 2 sets.

The third set Adelaide U prevented that early huge run, and played a much more competitive set. Serve receive was much stronger and allowed us to stay in it to the end in a 25-21 loss.

Honourable mention goes to Charlotte Vince for providing a strong pass and attack in sets 2 and 3. Honourable mention also goes to Tori Long for her ability to predict plays before they happen.

MVP goes to Shannon Schulz who had a great attacking game, hitting high and over blocks.
